Register today for our upcoming tree care workshop on February 4th!
Fireblight, a bacterial disease of apples, was widespread in the Boulder area last year. Fireblight can kill branches, or even entire trees, and spreads more easily during particularly wet seasons like we saw this past spring 2023. Acts of care taken now and over the winter will help prevent further impact during the next growing season. This workshop will focus on how to prune back infected branches while also encouraging strong branching structure in mature trees that will promote air circulation and stimulate robust fruit production. Before trees leaf out (late January through February) is the best time to prune.
To properly demonstrate how to prune mature and/or fireblighted fruit trees, this specific workshop will take place at a private residence in west Boulder. This tree steward tends to numerous historic fruit trees, and many of these trees unfortunately have fireblight. Help us restore these trees at this upcoming workshop!
We will provide light snacks and beverages, and all the necessary tools. Dress warm, as this workshop will take place outdoors! Feel free to bring your own gardening gloves and whatever you need to be comfortable for the duration of this workshop. But don't wait - there is limited space available!
Please Note: This workshop will focus more on pruning practices for mature and/or fireblighted trees, while our Winter Pruning Workshop on February 10th will focus on pruning younger fruit trees.
