Winter Tree Care Workshop: Pruning Apple & Pear Trees

WHEN: Saturday, January 24, 2026 from 1-3pm
WHERE:  Benevolence Orchard & Gardens 

This workshop will focus on how to prune back branches and encourage strong branching structure that will promote air circulation and stimulate robust fruit production. Before trees leaf out (late January through February) is the best time to prune.​ Please note that we will focus this workshop primarily on apple and pear trees, and will briefly look at some stone fruit trees.

Fruit Preparation & Preservation for Kids & Families

WHEN: Sunday, October 19, 2025 from 1:00 - 4:00pm
WHERE:  St. Aidan's Episcopal Church

WHAT: In this fun, hands-on, expert-led class, children and their grown-ups will learn the basics of safe food preparation and simple preservation methods using freshly rescued Community Fruit Rescue apples and pears. Together, we’ll explore tasty and creative ways to make the most of the harvest as we: make applesauce on both the stovetop and in the microwave, use a food dehydrator and oven to create yummy apple chips and fruit leather, and make a pear crisp. ​

Canning Made Easy: Applesauce Edition

WHEN: Sunday, October 12, 2025 from 1:00 - 4:00pm
WHERE:  St. Aidan's Episcopal Church

WHAT: In this beginner-friendly, expert-led class, you’ll learn the basics of canning and preserving using one of the simplest (and tastiest) recipes—homemade applesauce! Together we’ll transform freshly rescued Community Fruit Rescue apples into sauce and safely preserve them in jars using the hot water bath method. Along the way, you’ll pick up tips and tricks to make the process easy and fun. By the end, you’ll head home with your very own jar of applesauce and the know-how to start preserving other fruits, too. 

AppleFest: Celebrating All Things Apple!

WHEN: Saturday, October 4, 2025 from 2:00-5:00pm
WHERE:  Benevolence Orchard & Gardens, 6712 Jay Road, Boulder, CO 

WHAT: Celebrate Boulder’s apple abundance with Community Fruit Rescue and Benevolence Orchard & Gardens! Enjoy an apple-themed potluck, cider pressing, live music, yard games, and apple crafts for all ages.

Summertime Tree Care Workshop

WHEN: Saturday, June 28th 2025 from 3-5pm
WHERE:  Benevolence Orchard & Gardens 

Join Community Fruit Rescue, Benevolence Orchard & Gardens, and Widespread Malus for our Springtime Fruit Tree Care Workshop on June 28th, 2025! Learn essential summer tree care practices, including pest management, sunscald prevention, selective thinning, and more, all designed to improve the health of your tree and enhance the quality of your harvest. ​

Springtime Fruit Tree Care Workshop

WHEN: Saturday, May 3rd 2025 from 1-3pm
WHERE:  Benevolence Orchard & Gardens 

Join Community Fruit Rescue, Benevolence Orchard & Gardens, and Widespread Malus for our Springtime Fruit Tree Care Workshop on May 3rd, 2025! The session will cover meeting your trees’ nutritional needs, efficient water use, building resistance to pests and diseases, and how to be a good neighbor to our local black bears (who also love fresh fruit!). We will also introduce participants to understory planting techniques!
