Background
RESPONSIBILITIES
The purpose of the Board of Directors is to provide both leadership and governance to Community Fruit Rescue (CFR), supporting its mission and vision while actively contributing to the organization’s success. CFR’s Board is a working and governing board—members are expected to engage consistently throughout the year, not only in high-level oversight but also in hands-on support of CFR’s programs and operations.
Board members support CFR’s work by serving on Board Committees (for example: fundraising & grant writing, marketing, harvest logistics, finance, and more) and participating in key projects. Committees and project teams may meet between regular board meetings as needed to advance CFR’s goals.
Specifically, board members are expected to:

- Actively engage and communicate with CFR as part of a working and governing board, contributing to both strategic oversight and operational support.
- Be familiar with CFR’s mission, vision, programs, and finances.
- Support CFR’s fundraising and outreach efforts both during and outside the harvest season.
- Actively participate in at least one committee or project as needed throughout the year.
- Participate in at least one harvest each year.
- Volunteer at least one tabling event per year (e.g., Farmer’s Market, Bee + Boulder Festival, or other outreach events).
- Act as a representative of CFR by being comfortable communicating our mission, programs, and impact to the public through various media platforms and in-person.
- Help spread the word about CFR to prospective funders, donors, and other interested individuals or organizations.
- Attend and actively contribute to four board meetings per year (in person or virtually), informing the board in advance of any meetings I cannot attend.
- Prepare for meetings by reviewing the agenda and supporting materials in advance.
- Stay informed about CFR’s financial health and help ensure that the organization meets all legal and fiduciary responsibilities.
- Make an annual financial donation of an amount that is meaningful to me.
- (Optional) Host a meeting or gathering to foster community among board members
TERM & COMMITMENT
Board members serve a 3-year term and are eligible for reappointment for sequential terms. Board meetings are held quarterly (or as needed) and last approximately 2 hours.
Board members should expect to contribute at least 5 hours per month to CFR, which includes attending meetings, participating in committee/project work, representing CFR at events, and supporting organizational efforts. Time commitment may vary depending on the season and level of involvement in specific projects or committees.
Board members are required to make an annual financial donation of an amount that is personally meaningful to them. Serving on the CFR Board of Directors is a volunteer position with no financial compensation.
