Kick-off Event

(400 Quail Road, Longmont, CO)Kick off the Chokecherry Collaborative efforts for 2026 with an evening at the Longmont Museum to learn about the Collaborative and hear from Northern Arapaho partners about the significance of chokecherries for cultural ceremonies and food sovereignty.
Registration is kindly requested at this free event to assist with planning purposes. -

Volunteer to Harvest in Boulder
WHEN: Monday, July 20, 2026 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM
WHERE: Boulder, CO (exact location shared following sign-up)
Join CFR for our Boulder-area chokecherry harvests! We’ll kick off the evening at a central location with our Tribal partners, who will share background on this initiative and the cultural significance of chokecherries. We’ll then split into small groups and head out to designated harvest sites throughout Boulder to collect fruit together.

Volunteer to Sort & Clean Fruit
WHEN: Wednesday, July 22, 2026 OR Thursday, July 23, 2026 from 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

(2100 Collyer St, Longmont, CO)Join Wildlands Restoration Volunteers and the Chokecherry Collaborative for a morning or afternoon shift cleaning and freezing chokecherries for ceremonial use by Tribal communities.
Register as a volunteer with WRV and sign up for July 22 or July 23.

Winter Fruit Tree Care Workshop: Pruning Apple & Pear Trees
WHEN: Saturday, January 24, 2026 from 1-3pm
WHERE: Benevolence Orchard & Gardens
This workshop will focus on how to prune back branches and encourage strong branching structure that will promote air circulation and stimulate robust fruit production. Before trees leaf out (late January through February) is the best time to prune. Please note that we will focus this workshop primarily on apple and pear trees, and will briefly look at some stone fruit trees.
Fruit Preparation & Preservation for Kids & Families
WHEN: Sunday, October 19, 2025 from 1-4pm
WHERE: St. Aiden’s Episcopal Church
In this fun, hands-on, expert-led class, children and their grown-ups will learn the basics of safe food preparation and simple preservation methods using freshly rescued Community Fruit Rescue apples and pears. Together, we’ll explore tasty and creative ways to make the most of the harvest as we: make applesauce on both the stovetop and in the microwave, use a food dehydrator and oven to create yummy apple chips and fruit leather, and make a pear crisp.
Canning Made Easy: Applesauce Edition
WHEN: Sunday, October 12, 2025 from 1-4pm
WHERE: St. Aiden’s Episcopal Church
In this beginner-friendly, expert-led class, you’ll learn the basics of canning and preserving using one of the simplest (and tastiest) recipes—homemade applesauce! Together we’ll transform freshly rescued Community Fruit Rescue apples into sauce and safely preserve them in jars using the hot water bath method. Along the way, you’ll pick up tips and tricks to make the process easy and fun. By the end, you’ll head home with your very own jar of applesauce and the know-how to start preserving other fruits, too.
AppleFest: Celebrate All Things Apple!

Celebrate Boulder’s apple abundance with Community Fruit Rescue and Benevolence Orchard & Gardens! Enjoy an apple-themed potluck, cider pressing, live music, yard games, and apple crafts for all ages.
Learn to Grow Your Own Fruit Trees!
WHEN: Saturday, April 11, 2026 from 1-3pm
WHERE: Benevolence Orchard & Gardens
This workshop will give you the skills to successfully plant and care for fruit trees by supporting healthy growth, meeting nutritional needs, managing water wisely, building resilience to pests and disease, and creating habitat for beneficial insects. You will also learn how fruit trees strengthen our community by supporting pollinators and wildlife, cooling local microclimates, and encouraging safe coexistence with fruit loving neighbors like black bears. Plus, shop fruit trees from Benevolence Orchard, featuring more than 10 cultivars available in easy to handle 2 gallon pots.
Springtime Fruit Tree Care Workshop
WHEN: Saturday, May 9, 2026 from 1-3pm
WHERE: Benevolence Orchard & Gardens
Join Community Fruit Rescue and Benevolence Orchard & Gardens, for our Springtime Fruit Tree Care Workshop on May 9th, 2026! The session will cover meeting your trees’ nutritional needs, efficient water use, building resistance to pests and diseases, and how to be a good neighbor to our local black bears (who also love fresh fruit!). We will also introduce participants to understory planting techniques!
